Oh well, it wasn’t exactly the degree classification I was expecting but the Champaign did help.

Two back pages of my catalogues are mashups of my Instagram photos from this year. I want the books to be personal not only to the models but to myself as the artist and my feed is not only social, it’s an instant sketchbook, notebook, photo journal of my artistic life.

Getting everything ready for assessment, sadly printing didn’t go to plan and now I’m stick going through and putting together the books…. However they will be ready for the degree show.

The difference in photographing men compared to women is radical. There are so many different things to compare between them which is fascinating to think about -

The men to start takes on a strong resistant pose and then eases in as the shoot goes on. Expressions you ask them to take are done in, no shock, a very masculine way.

The women when asked will take to a pose like a duck to water, there is no resistance it just naturally flows. You ask them to go into a pose they will embrace it and make it their own.

This hypothesis is completely mine, and cannot really be compared to anyone else because then you would have to take other factors into account: Do they know the photographer, are they naturally photographable, are the models happy with themselves, are they comfortable.

In my case I asked for strength, dominance, attitude.

Robyn Gray

Working with editing the final models at the moment. These are as important, if not more so, than the end result. They show the vibrance, the true beauty, the strength of the living figure. Technology captures this in only one way and it is not the natural way of ‘real’ life. To see that we must look closer at what is actually in front of us instead of our screens and monitors.
I may be backwards here using technology to portray this idea to you but it is the only way - we must use technology to undo it.

Disneyland

My work with disneyland stems back to 2013 when I visited the park in France. The evening show was stunning and quite possibly changed what I thought was imaginable with the art world. It challenged your mind in what was real and what was designed, what was imagined and what was constructed.

On return and moving into 4th year to start on the Dissertation I discovered that there were essays on Disneyland as a ‘hyperreal’ environment. This led into other ideas, proposals and over time became what my degree show is mainly about - what is real in our reality?

Setting up for failure -
Positive side of this endeavour is that it has challenged my knowledge on technology and proved it is good. Problems I’m facing at the moment is that I wanted the old system (Snow Leopard) so I could span the image across all 4 screens, however because it is an older system I need the old software… Which is becoming tricky to come by.

keithtjmacleod-videodiary:

Testing the Arduino board and Quartz Composer with one of the 32inch screens. Discovered it works perfectly when a certain distance from the device so will need to go back to Ali with this - or try and sort it myself which is risky.

Interestingly the sound from the recording (the buzzing/bee/electronic sound) was not present when I recorded this video! And it gets louder the closer I get to the device so evidently it must be it reacting to my phone or something along those lines.

keithtjmacleod-videodiary:

This may seem quite dramatic about a single cable, however it has a deeper story.
For me to be able to control 4 television screens (or any type of monitor) I needed to be able to do it through the USB ports. However this requires a certain type of cable to convert from USB to HDMI.
This might seem simple in that surely there is a cable to do this, right? Wrong. To support the computer the cable had to supply it’s own graphics capability to display through the USB port. After extensive research I found a device to do this and taking a risk on a £30 piece of equipment might seem foolish but I went for it.
My time was not wasted and It works, hallelujah.
